Dear Dr. Blake,
I have been waiting to share this with you in person and can't believe I forgot to mention it when we saw you yesterday. (Well, I guess I can believe it).
A couple of weeks ago at my last treatment I just happened to mention lower back pain. I had not mentioned it before because it seemed to be "expected." It obviously was the result of all the garden work and house painting: reaching, stretching, lifting, bending, carrying, etc. I would take arnica when it was especially bad and figured it would go away when I was finally done with our projects.
When I happened to mention it, you added the foot pads to my biothermal treatment. That afternoon my back pain was radically improved. By evening it was gone and the next morning (and every day since then) there was no trace of the usual soreness when I even just touched the area. Was this a miracle or what?! Five minutes of a foot pad and months of "normal" pain gone!!!
Sadly, I didn't thank you right away. First, I needed to wait a bit to make sure it was really true. Then I wanted to thank you in person...and then I couldn't even manage that.
I have learned my lesson: complain about everything little thing that is bothering you.
Seizures, Chronic Ear & Sinus Infections:
“About a year and a half ago my daughter, Zoe was experiencing absent seizures, chronic ear infections, and horrible sinus problems. Zoe had three surgeries prior to seeing Dr. Blake. All three surgeries were to insert ear tubes so that when she had infections she would have relief but during the third surgery she also had a cleft palate repair to help with her speech. I’m telling you this because my daughter has been through a lot. She has seen Doctor’s weekly since the day she was born. Not only is this hard on her, as her mother I am exhausted. Zoe was born with a disorder known as Velo-Cardio-Facial Syndrome. When we finally found Dr. Blake I felt a sense of relief for the first time in her life. I felt like I could breathe again. I knew in my heart that he was going to be able to help her without putting my daughter through anymore surgeries. Zoe is 4.5 years old and says that “Dr. Blake can do magic”. After seeing Dr. Blake we have learned what foods her body can process and what she cannot. She only eats what her body can process. Zoe takes daily supplements that were suggested by Dr. Blake and had a few treatments done at his clinic. Zoe’s seizures slowly faded away. She has had just one ear infection in the last year and a half. I remember taking Zoe to her neurologist when the seizures were taking over her body about twelve times a day. Keep in mind; these are not grand mal seizures. Zoe’s absent seizures consisted of eye rolling, body limpness, and a blank stare that would scare me to tears every time it happened. Her neurologist immediately suggested to give her a prescription drug, Tenex, which is a drug given to lower peoples high blood pressure. I could not give this drug to Zoe. She was only two at the time and there was no guarantee that it would work. This is when we went to Dr. Blake. I knew he would help her without the pharmaceutical drugs and for that I am so grateful. I don’t know what we would have done if we didn’t come to Dr. Blake. Zoe’s seizures will be a lifelong battle but for now she is seizure free and we have Dr. Blake to thank for that. She takes her daily supplements suggested by Dr. Blake and she seems more comfortable in her own skin now. She’s no longer in pain. When you go see Dr. Blake you don’t just go see a Doctor, you go see a family that truly cares about their patients. Zoe gets the biggest smile on her face when I tell her we’re going to see Dr. Blake.”
“After seeing how much Dr. Blake was able to help my daughter Zoe I decided I should see him too. I never felt like there was anything ‘wrong’ with me. I didn’t feel sick and I’m a fairly healthy person. What I didn’t realize is that I was eating foods that my body could not process. After having a blood screening at Dr. Blake’s office he was able to tell me that I am intolerant to eggs and I cannot process dairy products and wheat products if within an eight hour period. I cried. I really did. I love eggs and I love bread. More so, I love them together. It took me about a month to be committed to my new food intake but I did it. I started to change my food intake in December of 2012. It’s now May 2013 and I have lost a total of 23 pounds. I was shocked. By eating foods that my body can process I feel such a difference. I have more energy, I’m sleeping better, and I feel better about myself.
Not only did Dr. Blake teach me what I should and should not eat, he also made me believe that I could do it. I was scared of making these changes in my life but Dr. Blake assured me it was possible. “
“I wanted to thank you for your help in my quest to conceive naturally. I've just found out I'm pregnant and know it has everything to do with the food intolerance test I did at the end of 2011. After reading the results I said goodbye to my beloved butter and cheese friends and eliminated all dairy, along with the combination of sugar and fruits - It was a very rough road, but I stuck with it and am now overjoyed. I've never felt better and know the positive outcome of healing your body from within. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!”
Kidney Transplant Recipient:
I first started seeing Dr. Blake in March of 2011. I am a kidney transplant recipient of 13 years. Often health issues come up as a result of anti-rejection drugs. Dr. Blake has been helping me control and manage some of those issues. I see various doctors mostly related to my transplant and the drugs I take are all as a result of my transplant. Since my transplant y health has improved dramatically. And since I started seeing Dr. Blake many of the problems related to the anti-rejection drugs have improved or been eliminated altogether. My results with Dr. Blake have occurred much quicker than I expected. I have reduced my blood pressure and the medicine I used to control it. I have also been able to reduce some of the anti-rejection drugs. A side benefit, which I was not really expecting, was a substantial drop in weight which I have been able to keep off for these past two plus years. Finally, my energy level and zest for life is back and I can’t believe how good that feels! Dr. Blake, thank you!
Dear Dr. Blake,
“Thank you so much for helping my dear wife and I recover a great deal of good health. Your dedication to your patients is truly remarkable and your staff is also wonderful! From the bottom of my heart.”
“Thank you so very much. Words fail me”
Gratitude & Respect:
“We can’t thank you enough for being there for us the night of our son’s crisis. Both my husband and I were really frightened our son was going to stop breathing and at the same time we felt the ER could have exacerbated the situation. We are grateful that we have a doctor like you – one who will answer his phone at 10:15 at night, one who really cares about the health of the individual in a way that encompasses body and soul, one who lives within community. With gratitude & respect,”
How We Stand Apart from Others:
“I want to thank you for something you said at my last visit. I’ll put this in context by saying that I’ve been through a lot of business with a good number of doctors in the past. Some argued that there was nothing wrong with me; some clearly thought I was hypochondriacally. On doctor felt that treatment wasn’t worth pursuing because she considered what I was describing to be “only a quality of life issue!” But you said, “I really want to see you start feeling better.” That might seem very normal and natural to you but I was quite surprised by it – no doc has ever expressed anything like that to me. For the first time, I feel like I have someone in my corner that really cared about helping me figure this out – which, apart from all of the other things I appreciated about your manner and the efficacy of your care, is incredibly positive. Thanks for being a remarkable doc!”
“I have had an absolutely brilliant experience with Dr. Woodyard and Dr. Blake (along with the entirely wonderful nurses and staff) at the Portland Clinic of Holistic Health. The clinic offers testing that I have not seen elsewhere in my long and frustrating history of chasing down the causes of my ill health. These tests uncovered hidden food intolerances and imbalances, the treatments for which have proven to be very effective thus far. I especially appreciated how articulate, communicative and eager to educate the doctors are – qualities that I find to be rare in physicians. They are a sharp, compassionate and energetic bunch and I am delighted to be working with them. “

“I have never enjoyed going to the doctor so much. Even though not all the news was good, I look forward to working with Dr. Woodard for a solution.”

“They were very accommodating in seeing me and answering my questions. I will definitely consider them my new primary physician going forward as they have the holistic approach of treating the root problem rather than just surface symptoms. I’m looking forward in continuing to work with them in improving my health.”

Dear Dr. Blake,
I hope this finds you in the best of health and spirits. Thank you again for taking my case. You have saved my life and you are by far the most gifted physician I have encountered. I hope your were not to offended or pissed off with my emails. I realize I have become quite taxing as of late.
I have been dealing with 3 issues for years. Traditional medicine said nothing was wrong. Dr. Blake found them and treated them and they are no longer my issues! No pain, no problem! Well done Dr. Blake – walking straight and tall.
- ET 2014
I first visited Holistic Health in October 2013. I had been struggling with increasing and intense internal pain that moved from my chest to my lower abdomen for 9 months. Blood tests had been run, 3 ultra sounds - done on an emergency basis, and a colonoscopy. I was convinced that I had some form of elusive cancer in my organs that was going to be discovered at a late stage and I would be facing surgery, chemo and radiation. After the colonscopy, the GI doctor diagnosed a tortuous colon, and also suggested it was amplified by a food allergy, and likely dairy, I was relieved to some degree, but still in so much pain and discomfort it was hard to believe.
A friend that had experienced very positive results from her interactions with Holisitic Health, recommended Dr. Blake. I made an appt. and got in to see him in a matter of weeks. He spent a lot of time getting a complete history and exam. A week later I got the results - Dairy intolerance, as well as an intolerance to fruit and sugar combination. I was THRILLED!! What an easy solution! No Surgery, no Chemo, no radiation - all of it within my control. I met with one of the fabulous nutritionists to get some more defined direction on how to shop and cook with my new restrictions, and that helped a lot! I had a couple of the treatments during the first 3-4 weeks, including accupuncture, and Biothermal Therapy
Relief was gradual, but within 2-3 weeks I started feeling consistently and incrementally better. By the 6 week mark, I was feeling consistently good. 7 months later, I am still feeling great and the eating habits have become natural.
I would highly recommend Holistic Health to anyone with any chronic health issues. Dr. Blake and his team work very cooperatively with traditional western medical providers to create the best possible outcome for the patient.

To Whom it May Concern,
About 20 years ago, my daughter, Suzanne, recommended I seek holistic care with Dr. Nyvelt at the Portland Clinic.
At the time I had been diagnosed with osteoarthritis and was developing impaired mobility, pain, etc. It accelerated to painful back and hip episodes that disrupted my daily activities and hobbies.
My name is Vicki Potvin, I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Our peninsula is surrounded by two of the great lakes, Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. Upon research I learned that our area has the highest rate of arthritis in the U. S.
Dr. Nyvelt’s examination included a voice test that recorded a graph configuration on his computer on which he based his diagnosis of my body’s strengths and deficiencies and prescribed supplements to balance my system.
Several years later he conducted another exam that resulted in a pin-pointed diagnosis of my painful episodes in my hip and shoulder, with his newly acquired sound wave discoveries acquired from NASA research at the time of the Anthrax threat in the United States. He prepared two CD’s to address my problems. It seemed innovative to the point of disbelief,
I accepted it because of my faith in Dr. Nyvelt and the positive life changing results I had been experiencing under his care. It was like magic – sound waves healing my most severe arthritic problems!
I am so very grateful to my daughter and Dr. Nyvelt for the onset of my holistic care and equally grateful for the continued care I am receiving from Dr. Eric Blake, his successor, at the Portland Clinic of Holistic Health.
At the age of 77, osteoarthritis does not hamper my life style. I live in a resort village on a beautiful lake. I love to kayak in the summer and cross country ski in the winter.
My weekly routine includes exercising at the Wellness Center, Yoga classes, hiking with my dog and managing to be over programmed with volunteer activities most of the time.
Our beautiful lake and forest setting draws many retirees to this area. That also means we are heavily populated with senior citizens. I am fortunate to enjoy an eclectic accumulation of friends of all ages. It is glaringly obvious that many of my activities are shared with younger friends in their 50s and it concerns me that many of my friends in their 60s and 70s are experiencing debilitating health problems.
I can only conclude that I must attribute my greatly appreciated health and mobility to holistic care, my exercise program, and my many friends and social activities.
