5 Reasons to Consider Integrative Cancer Care

5 Reasons to Consider Integrative Cancer Care

Integrative cancer care treats the whole patient, not just the disease. Holistic cancer therapies have proven so beneficial in increasing one’s quality of life that they’ve been incorporated into the guidelines for cancer care by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network and the American Society for Clinical Oncology.

Our dedicated practitioners at the Portland Clinic of Holistic Health in downtown Portland, Oregon, harness your body’s self-healing capacity using both holistic and conventional therapies. If you or a loved one is currently looking cancer straight in the eye or rearview mirror, we help guide you with healing, holistic treatments and have been treating patients with cancer since 1998.

5 ways integrative cancer care helps

Our doctors evaluate your current needs to select your treatments. These include:

1. Bio-Thermal Therapy®

Developed from European roots, Bio-Thermal Therapy(R)is a noninvasive healing process that reduces inflammation and assists the body in absorbing much-needed nutrients. Warming the body helps destroy cancer cells with little or no effect on healthy tissues. Biothermal Therapy uses electrotherapy devices to reduce inflammation. Your doctor chooses the best device from a range of options that suit your particular symptoms.

2. High dose intravenous vitamin C

When given at high doses, vitamin C has been shown to be a “natural chemotherapeutic agent” in the fight against cancer. Following the Kansas IVC therapy protocol guidelines, we generally advise an initial course of  12 treatments with IVC therapy within 4 to 6 weeks,  followed by infusions weekly. Research shows this can be combined with conventional  chemotherapy to enhance conventional chemotherapy effect against cancer and to improve tolerability as well as reduce side effects.

There are other IV agents such as artemesinin and quercetin that also have anti-cancer activity and can be combined with IV Vitamin C and used independently or alongside conventional chemotherapy.

3. Acupuncture

Used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years, acupuncture helps balance your “chi,” or life force. It fights pain and stress by releasing your body’s natural endorphins and helps relieve nausea from chemotherapy and surgery.

4. IV therapy to supply nutrients

By replenishing lost nutrients promptly, IV nutrition reduces the toxic effects of chemotherapy, radiation treatments, and the cancer itself. We fortify your digestive tract and vital organs, including your kidneys and liver, to improve your overall quality of life.

5. Therapeutic anti-cancer diets

Proper nutrition is key to overcoming diseases such as cancer. For instance, the American Cancer Society recommends eating a rainbow of colors to reduce your cancer risk. We build on those basic guidelines to help you eat to live your best life. 'Think Green' the late Dr. Loeffler used to say.

We individualize our food prescription for patients and we evaluate for food intolerances that can interfere with nutrient absorption and contribute to chronic inflammation.

Fill up on foods that heal

We advise limiting sugars and adding a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables to your diet. Foods, such as broccoli, cherries, apples, blueberries, and more, pack a protective punch against cancer. Additional tips include:

It’s also best to avoid processed meats. Instead, we recommend lean proteins including red meat, poultry, beans, fish, and tofu.

Experience mind-body wellness through integrative cancer care

A cancer diagnosis turns your world upside down. We use various holistic therapies to help you stand up straight again and fight. Or simply relax and sleep. We help you fight cancer-related symptoms, such as fatigue, anxiety, pain, and nausea, through gentle massage, yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and holistic vitamins and herbs.

While it may not take an entire village to help you beat cancer, you needn’t go it alone. When you’re ready to send your cancer packing or simply improve your overall health, call Portland Clinic of Holistic Health or book an appointment online.
