Iris Diagnosis Q & A

What is iris diagnosis?

Iris diagnosis, also known as iridology, is a holistic diagnostic method that uses the colors, patterns, and various other properties of your iris (the colored portion of your eye) to assess your general health and well-being.

Iridologists, like those at the Portland Clinic of Holistic Health, believe that each organ in the human body has a corresponding region in the iris.

By observing your iris, your doctor gathers valuable information about the health and function of your internal organs. Iris charts separate the iris into about 90 different zones. Each zone corresponds to a different part of your body.

What happens during iris diagnosis?

At the Portland Clinic of Holistic Health, the team performs iris diagnosis onsite. During your appointment, your provider uses a combination of flashlights and special microscopes to view all areas of your iris. They observe your iris pigmentation, fiber structure, and look for the accumulation of metabolites in your iris.

Your doctor also looks for evidence of tissue changes, stromal irregularities, or unusual pigment patterns. Last but not least, your doctor takes a series of photographs using a specially modified iris camera.

After taking your pictures, they upload them to a hospital-developed iris software scanning program called Bexel Irina. This cutting-edge evaluation tool often identifies underlying factors negatively affecting your health.

Your doctor uses all of this information to develop a custom treatment plan that eases your symptoms and improves your quality of life.

Is iris diagnosis safe?

Yes. Iris diagnosis is safe and well-tolerated; it also has a proven track record with more than 125 years of scientific research behind it. In addition, a growing body of international scientific literature clearly demonstrates its capabilities and limitations.

Can iris diagnosis pinpoint specific illnesses?

Iridology doesn’t diagnose illness. Instead, it is a physical examination and screening that helps the doctor to understand genetic predispositions, chronic physiological dysfunction, and acute inflammatory reactions.

Iris diagnosis helps to understand the individuals’ predisposition to certain disease states. The medical director, Dr. Eric Blake of the Portland Clinic of Holistic Health gave a presentation in Barcelona, Spain, in 2016 at the International Congress of Naturopathic Medicine reviewing the international body of science, possibilities, and limitations of this examination.
